About Indio California
Indio’s estimated population is 91,765 as of 2019. It has an area of 33.23 square miles. Indio is most famous for hosting the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival better know to attendees simply as Coachella. East of Palm Springs and North West of the city of Coachella itself, Indio is located within Riverside county. Originally a railroad town Indio eventually become an agricultural center growing dates among other crops. Indio became further synonymous with dates as it became the location of USDA’s Date Station. The Date Station conducted research on dates to gain a better understanding of this new crop. Today Indio serves as the hub of the Coachella valley.
