About Thousand Palms California
Thousand Palms is a CDP or census-designated place in Riverside County California. Thousand Palms is in the Coachella Valley between Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage. As of 2010, the population was 2,715. There are many species of wildlife in the Coachella Valley which is part of the Sonoran Desert. One of those creatures is the Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard which is an endangered species. Thousand Palms is also home to many fan palms, naturally. In fact, the area used to be known as 100 Palm Spring dating back to 1874. In 1915 the town was named Edom after the post office that was established there in 1913. In 1919 the residents changed the name of the city to Thousand Palms. There are many oases and springs in Thousand Palms these are due to the San Andreas fault creating lines where subterranean water can rise to the surface.
